Let the Music Begin

These are portraits were taken my Senior year of High School. I wanted to show the passion she had through her love of music and to get away from traditional poses in portrait photography. The reason why these photographs stood out to me in deciding what to post today is because I am exploring different types of music myself. It is amazing to think of what beauty can come out of one single instrument. And that instrument brings out emotion and passion through the performer to the listener.

I got my inspiration from a wonderful book called Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller, it is an excellent read if I do say so myself. In the Author's Note, it writes:

I never liked jazz music because jazz music doesn't resolve. but I was outside the Bagdad Theater in Portland one night when I saw a man playing the saxophone. I stood there for fifteen minutes, and he never opened his eyes.
After that I liked jazz music.
Sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself. It is as if they are showing you the way. 
I used to not like God because God didn't resolve. But that was before this happened.


After reading this note, I had such a visual inspiration that I knew I had to do something about it.
